Our Story · Fayetteville, WV
The Wooly Gorge grew out of a simple truth: around here, if you love yarn, you've been driving over an hour to find it. That didn't feel right. This place — these mountains, this river, this community — deserves something all its own.
We're a small, fiercely local yarn shop rooted in the spirit of the New River Gorge. Come in for the fiber. Stay for the feeling.
Rooted in this place
The name says it all. “Wooly” for fiber and warmth. “Gorge” for the rugged, beautiful landscape we call home. The New River Gorge has always been an icon to this community — we wear that proudly.
A family dream
This shop is run by one person — a nurse, a mom, a maker — with the full support of her family. When you shop here, you’re not feeding a corporation. You’re directly supporting a family’s dream.
A gathering place
More than a shop, The Wooly Gorge is a place where people can slow down, connect, learn new skills, and feel welcome — no matter your experience level or your craft.
Local makers first
We feature regional artists and handmade goods alongside carefully curated yarns. Small business needs small business support — and we mean that in both directions.
“I wanted to build a place where people could feel inspired, welcomed, and connected through fiber arts — something Fayetteville has genuinely been waiting for.”

Alyssa grew up surrounded by the mountains, the river, and the tight-knit creativity of the New River Gorge community. Her mother and grandmother were always making things with their hands — and even though she came to fiber arts later in life, it felt like coming home when she did. Calm, creative, practical, meaningful.
Today she’s a nurse, a wife, and a mom to two kids — and The Wooly Gorge is her outlet. Her passion project. Her way of contributing something lasting to the place she loves. She handles everything herself: the buying, the stocking, the selling, the sweeping. That’s not a complaint — it’s a point of pride. And it’s exactly why every visit feels personal.
